THE BOYS Showrunner Discusses the Return of Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy in Season 5

Jensen Ackles will be returning to the role of Soldier Boy in the fifth and final season of Primie Video’s The Boys, and after that, he’s getting his own prequel series set in the 1950s titled Vought Rising.

Soldier Boy is Vought’s original superhero, and while the character was seemingly killed at the end of The Boys Season 3, the Season 4 finale reveals that Homelander (Anthony Starr) is still keeping Soldier Boy alive.

While speaking with GamesRadar+ about what Ackles’ role will look like in the next season of The Boys, the showrunner of the series said: “You know, what we realized was we really hadn’t explored the father-son relationship much between Homelander and Soldier Boy.

“There’s a lot of material there, how soldier boy feels about Homelander, how Homelander feels about his dad, and so we really wanted to dig into that relationship.”

He also talked about Soldier Boy’s relationship with Butcher, saying: “Soldier Boy is really driven to kill Butcher after Butcher betrayed him in season 3. So he’s just an excellent antagonist, to switch sides and basically, you know, to be with the supes.”

There’s an interesting dynamic between these two characters to play with, and it’ll be interesting to see what they do with them regarding the overall story arc of the series and their characters.

When offering an update on the series, Kripke previously said: "We're about a month into the writers' room right now, so we have some pretty cool notions.”

He continued: “It's a very raw lava-esque deal right now. It hasn't hardened into anything, but I'm excited. I think there's some crazy shit's been talked about, that's for sure."

Every season the series does some crazy bonkers shit, and I’m sure they’ll surprise us once again with Season 5.

The series also stars Karl Urban as The Butcher, Jack Quaid as Hughie Campbell Jr., Erin Moriarty as Annie January/Starlight, Jessie T. Usher as Reggie Franklin/A-Train, Laz Alonso as Marvin T. “Mother’s Milk,” Chace Crawford as The Deep, Tomer Capone as Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko, Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir, and Colby Minifie as Ashley Barrett.
