THE BOYS Star Antony Starr Comments on Superhero Fatigue Says Fans Are "Hungry as Hell For Superhero Content"

There are a lot of different opinions out there regarding superhero movie fatigue, but one thing we know for sure is that the excitement for superhero films has died down, and the box office numbers for these kinds of movies have been disappointing in recent years.

The Boys star Antony Starr recently shared his own thoughts on superhero fatigue and is pushing back on it. During a recent interview with CinemaBlend, Starr said that he doesn’t believe in the idea of superhero fatigue.

The actor explained: “No, not at all. Actually, I question where the fatigue lies. And I think, without digging into the specifics of anything that has or hasn't been successful, I'm very curious to see what happens around any notion of superhero fatigue when James Gunn’s superhero (projects) come out.

“I don't think the audience is fatigued, let me put it that way. I think the audience is hungry. We were just down in Mexico doing a CCXP down there. And they are hungry as hell for superhero content.”

The people who attend those kinds of events, though, are such a small fraction of the fans and audiences that go to the movies.

Starr went on to say: “I think it's easy to start saying, ‘Is this superhero fatigue?’ I think people just want fresh stories, and fresh ideas, and fresh storytelling.

“And because of the nature of our show being an inverted universe, we're not bound… we're not slaves to the same masters. We're not bound to the same moral true north that standard superhero things are. We have no boundaries, right?”

I do agree with the fact that people want fresh stories, ideas, and storytelling. I also think the quality of the filmmaking also matters. You have to have a strong story and script to get people excited about things.

As you know, Marvel Studios has been making some big behind-the-scenes changes to get back on the right track. James Gunn is also doing the same thing with DC Studios and his reboot of the DC cinematic universe.

We’ll just have to wait and see if what these studios are doing will get fans and audiences pumped up again for superhero films.

There’s a lot of excitement right now for Deadpool & Wolverine, but this is a special case. This movie is going to be a huge hit because Deadpool and Wolverine are going to embark on a wild adventure together! The real test will be what Marvel does after this movie.

As for James Gunn’s Superman, while I’m excited about it, a lot of other fans don’t seem too sure about the direction of it. I’m sure that will change, though, when a trailer is released.

I’m of the opinion that superhero fatigue is real, and the reason why studios like Marvel and DC are making the changes that they are. They know they need to get back on track and win back their audiences.
