The Bridge Action Scene in SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME Was Originally 15 Minutes Long
That action-packed bridge sequence in Spider-Man: No Way Home went through a few different iterations before they settled on what we ended up seeing in the movie. This is a great scene in the film that introduced both Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock and Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin into the MCU and it was glorious.
In a recent interview, visual effects supervisor Kelly Port talked about the multiple iterations of the sequence and shared that the longest one they had was 15-minutes long!
"Digital Domain was tasked with doing that sequence, which was a few hundred VFX shots. Also, the Digital Domain previs team did the previs for the whole movie, which was really cool, led by Matt McClurg. They just did such a great job. There's so many cool iterations of that sequence that will never see the light of day. It was way longer. At one point in its longest iteration, it was 15 minutes long."
Port goes on to reveal that that scene was shot in a purpose-built backlot in Atlanta, saying:
"We shot in Atlanta at Trilith Studios, which was called Pinewood Atlanta. It was a backlot pad that was made specifically for us. We had 40-foot bluescreens on three sides of that pad, a little bit of roadway with the exit where the assistant vice chancellor was exiting and where most of the action took place."
I know that Port says that the other cool iterations of the scene will never see the light of day, but it would be cool if they actually did show some of the other plans on the special features of the Blu-ray or something.
