The Broadway Musical Adaptation of Roald Dahl's MATILDA Is Getting the Feature Film Treatment

A few years ago when I visited New York City, my wife and I took in a few Broadway shows. One of those shows was the musical adaptation of Roald Dahl's Matilda. We had no idea what to expect from it, and I ended up loving it. When the touring company came to Los Angeles, I took my kids to see it, and they loved it as well. It’s just a great story filled with fun and wonderful music.

As some who enjoyed this show, I’m happy to report that it will be adapted into a feature film thanks to a partnership between Sony Pictures and Netflix. The film will get a full theatrical and streaming run exclusively in the U.K. and then stream on Netflix platforms around the world.

Matilda follows the story of a young prodigy mistreated by her ignorant parents. At a school run by an abusive headmistress, she finds a kindred spirit in her teacher, Miss Honey.

The film adaptation of Matilda the Musical will be directed by Matthew Warchus, who was also the director of the stage musical. Dennis Kelly, who won a Tony for best book for adapting the novel, will write the screenplay.

If you’re not family with the musical, here’s a little taste of what it entails:
