The Brutally Gruesome Super Villain Origin Story BRIGHTBURN Is Part Of A Cinematic Universe - Movie Review
Brightburn takes the Superman mythos and origin and puts a horror spin on it and despite whether you think the movie is good or bad, everyone seems to agree that putting those powers in the wrong hands is pretty horrifying.
One thing thing that this super hero movie does to follow recent comic-book based films is to reveal that it is part of a larger cinematic universe. The moment Brightburn reveals this information is so subtle, it’s likely that you may have missed it completely.
Near the end of the film a news report from a conspiracy theorist played by Michael Rooker, about the recent string of deaths connected to the Brightburn logo. He says that it is just the latest in a long line of unexplained crimes and/or events. During his explanation he reveals that Brightburn shares a universe with the Crimson Bolt, the vigilante played by Rainn Wilson in another James Gunn superhero film Super. Rooker’s character even shows a photo of the Crimson Bolt to help push his point. Again the moment is quick, but if you’re familiar with that red and yellow costume or the film you can’t miss it. If you did miss it, that isn’t too surprising, because Super is in fact the lowest grossing movie that Gunn has ever directed. But you should do yourself a favor and check it out, trust me.
