The Budget For Disney's Live-Action MULAN Makes it One of the Most Expensive Films Ever Made
Disney has huge plans for their live-action adaptation of Mulan and they are betting big on director Niki Caro (Whale Rider, The Zookeeper’s Wife) to deliver something incredible. According to Pursuenews, Disney has given the film a $290 million budget, which will join the club of being one of the most expensive films ever made.
Just to give you an idea of the scale that Disney is going for with this movie, the budget for Avengers: Infinity War is said to have been close to $300 million. Most big blockbuster films don't get this kind of budget!
If you look at some of the budgets for some other big films there's John Carter with a budget of $263 million, Tangled had a $260 million budget, Spider-Man 3 cost $258 million, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice cost $250 million, and Captain America: Civil War cost $250 million.
Mulan is gearing up to start shooting in New Zealand and will apparently start production in August. Sources tell the site that "the sets will be massive and are of an unprecedented scale. Currently, it is in the design stage and would require an ample amount of time to be built." The crew working on the construction of the set is the same crew that worked on Thor: Ragnarok.
Hopefully Disney ends up delivering an incredible film that the fans will flock to see. They are also banking on China to boost their World Wide box office numbers.
Mulan is set to be released on March 27th, 2020 and so far it stars Liu Yifei as Mulan, Donnie Yen as Commander Tung, and Jet Li as the Emperor.
