The Budget for Vin Diesel's FAST X Has Reportedly Ballooned to $340 Million!

Fast X, the upcoming tenth film in Universal Pictures’ Fast and Furious franchise is apparently one hell of an expensive movie to make! According to The Wrap, the budget for the movie has ballooned to $340 million, which seems absolutely insane! What the hell kind of movie are they making over there!?

That’s 70% more than the reported $200 million budget for F9: The Fast Saga, and is easily the most expensive entry in an action franchise. So what’s the reason behind the budget surge, which does factor in tax-incentive offsets? It’s explained, “increased salaries for series star Vin Diesel and the rest of the franchise’s ensemble cast, general increases in production costs caused by global inflation and charges for pandemic testing requirements mandated by COVID-19 safety protocols.” That would have to include fuel and explosions.

For $340 million they better be taking Fast and Furious to Mars and feature some of the most insane action-packed vehicular mayhem we’ve ever seen because that just seems absolutely bonkers to spend that kind of money on a Fast and Furious movie.

Now, this would actually make sense if this budget was for both Fast X and its sequel. But that wasn’t specified in the report. If this is for one film, though, that’s a big gamble! In the end, no movie needs to cost that much money to make.

Earlier this year it was reported that Justin Lin had dropped out of the project due to creative differences and was replaced by Louis Leterrier. It sounds like things just got out of hand since that happened.

Dan Mazeau wrote the screenplay with Lin. We still don’t have any details regarding the synopsis for this next chapter of the story, but it will be the first of two films that bring the main saga to a close.

Diesel previously teased that there are “angles coming” to the mythology that will make fans smile. The cast includes Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Sung Kang, Charlize Theron, Jason Momoa as a flamboyant villain, and Brie Larson also joined the movie.

What do you think about Fast X’s massive budget? Is the Fast and Furious franchise worth it? Sound off below!
