The Budget For X-MEN: DARK PHOENIX Has Reportedly Ballooned To Over $200 Million

A lot of people are already expecting director Simon Kinberg’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix to bomb at the box office this year. I haven’t seen a lot of excitement for it. I think fans are more excited about the future of the franchise when it finally comes back to Marvel Studios.

A new report from the Observe says that “Dark Phoenix‘s budget is rumored to have ballooned to an exorbitant $200 million thanks to costly and extensive reshoots that wound up delaying the film’s release date by four months.”

We’ve been hearing that this movie has gone through extensive reshoots for awhile. Most of those reshoots are said to deal with the the third act of the film. $200 million is a huge budget for any movie! Hell, most of the Marvel Studios films don’t have that big of a budget.

If the movie bombs like a lot of people think it will, the studio could lose a lot of money on this thing. In the end, though, I guess it doesn’t matter since Disney is going to be inheriting the film when the deal closes.

Do you think X-Men: Dark Phoenix is going to succeed or do you think it will crash and burn?

In Dark Phoenix, the X-Men face their most formidable and powerful foe: one of their own, Jean Grey. During a rescue mission in space, Jean is nearly killed when she is hit by a mysterious cosmic force. Once she returns home, this force not only makes her infinitely more powerful, but far more unstable. Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. With Jean spiraling our of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together. Now, with this family falling apart, they must find a way to unite - not only to save Jean's soul, but to save our very planet from aliens who wish to weaponize this force and rule the galaxy.

Dark Phoenix sees the return of James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Sophie Turner, and Alexandra Shipp. Jessica Chastain will be taking on the role of a mysterious villain in the story.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be released on June 7th, 2019.
