The BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER Reboot Has Been Put on Pause
Back in 2018 it was announced that Joss Whedon was developing a reboot of Buffy The Vampire Slayer series with 20th Century Fox. Whedon was an executive producer on the project and was going to help develop it with writer Monica Owusu-Breen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.).
The new series reboot was also going to see a Black actress take over the title role, which was played in the original series by Sarah Michelle Gellar. It was referred to as “contemporary, building on the mythology of the original.”
It’s been a while since we’ve had any updates on this project, and a lot has happened since then! 20th Century Fox was bought by Disney and is now called 20th Century Studios, and Joss Whedon has been cancelled. So, it should come as a surprise to learn that the project has been put on pause.
I came across the news on TV Line, and during an episode of THR’s TV’s Top 5 podcast, executive producer Gail Berman says the project is now “on pause.”
Who knows if the project will ever start moving forward again? If it does, it won’t be for awhile, and who know if Whedon will even be involved with it, if it does happen.
