The CHIP 'N DALE: RESCUE RANGERS Movie Originally Featured Jar Jar Binks Instead of Ugly Sonic

When Ugly Sonic popped up in Disney’s Chip ‘N Dale: Rescue Rangers movie, I couldn’t help but bust up laughing. That was the original character design that was created for the Sonic The Hedgehog movie before fan backlash caused the studio to change it.

It turns out that the original plan was to include a completely different CGI character… Jar Jar Binks from the Star Wars prequels. Storyboard artist Simeon Wilkins recently shared some of his artwork from the movie on Instagram, revealing the role Jar Jar almost played.

"One more sequence from Rescue Rangers – the Fan Expo chase. It’s great that the bones of this scene stayed fairly firm, while a bunch of characters were swapped out. Most notably, Jar Jar was replaced with Ugly Sonic."

There are no details as to why Jar Jar was replaced with Ugly Sonic, but I’m happy that Ugly Sonic made his way into the movie!

The storyboard art shows Jar Jar sitting at a table while the chipmunks talking to him. There’s no dialogue that you can hear, but there’s no doubt you can hear Jar Jar’s voice in your head as you watch it. Check it out!

What are your thoughts on Ugly Sonic? Would you have liked to see Jar Jar in the movie?
