The Classic 1960s TV Series THE AVENGERS is Getting The Reboot Treatment
The classic 1960s TV series The Avengers is getting a new reboot thanks to StudioCanal, which owns the rights to the property. This is a project that has apparently been in development for some time and the pilot episode has already been written.
The series is being developed by Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, the writing team behind hit HBO/BBC series Industry, and Sex Education director Ben Taylor is also attached as a co-creator and he will direct the series. The Warner Bros. Discovery production company Wall to Wall is co-producing.
The original series was created by Sydney Newman and it featured a stylish and eccentric take on espionage and crime-fighting. The series primarily follows the adventures of John Steed, played by Patrick Macnee, and a succession of female partners who often displayed intelligence, wit, and a flair for fashion. Together, they navigate a world of intrigue, espionage, and bizarre villains and it also has a distinctive sense of British charm and humor.
The Avengers was adapted into a film in 1998 with Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman in the lead roles. The movie wasn’t really that good and it ended up flopping at the box office. The movie did so badly that it failed to break even on its $60M budget.
I’m sure the creative team will do everything they can to make a great new series to avoid how that movie turned out.
