The Classic 80s Series THE GREATEST AMERICAN HERO is Being Rebooted With a Female Lead
One of my favorite show The Greatest American Hero. The classic 80s series was created by Steven J. Cannell and starred the fantastically entertaining William Katt.
The original series followed a teacher, who is asked to be a superhero using a special alien suit with powers he can barely understand or control. ABC is now developing a reboot of the series and this time around it will have a woman in the lead role.
In this new version of the series, the unlikely superhero will be a 30-year-old Indian-American woman from Cleveland named Meera. It's explained that her talents include tequila drinking, karaoke and not much else. "Then some aliens entrust her with a super suit to protect the planet, and the world has never been in more unreliable hands."
Of course, I'll give the reboot a shot. I just know that it won't capture the cheesy spirit of the original series, which is what made it so damn entertaining!
ABC has ordered the pilot episode for the half-hour series, which comes from Fresh Off the Boat writer-producer Rachna Fruchbom and Nahnatchka Khan. Hopefully they can pull off a reboot worthy of the original series.
