The Classic Creature Feature Franchise GHOULIES Is Getting a New Trilogy of Films
If you’re a fan of horror films from the ‘80s, then there’s no doubt you’re familiar with the creature feature franchise Ghoules. There were four films total made, and the last one was Ghoulies IV back in 1994. Well, the original creators of the franchise have plans to bring these little monsters back for a whole new trilogy of films!
According to Bloody-Disgusting, director and co-writer Luca Bercovici and producer and co-writer Jefery Levy have reclaimed the domestic rights to their 1984 cult classic film. Their plan is to “develop a new film trilogy for a new generation.”
The first two scripts are already complete and the third one is halfway there. writer and producer Theo Lemaster said: “We are shopping it now and hoping to film in late Summer/Early Fall.”
The press release offers addiotnal details, saying: “Drawing upon their unmatched expertise and unwavering passion, Levy, Bercovici, and Theo Lemasters are set to unveil a series of projects that will keep audiences wallowing in filthy horror fun for many years to come.”
It was also revealed that the creative team is “expanding the Ghoulies universe beyond the silver screen with a book series that will plunge readers into the darkest depths of the Ghoulies universe. Fans can look forward to bringing home a piece of the Ghoulies universe with an exclusive line of figures, apparel, and collectibles for every devotee of the delightfully demonic Ghoulies.”
So, they are planning on going all out with this Ghoulies revival! I remember the first film being enjoyable, but I don’t remember any of the sequels. This could be a lot of fun though if done right. It’s good to know that the original creators are involved with the project.
