The Classic Game RISK Is Getting a Series Adaptation From the Creator of HOUSE OF CARDS

TV RiskBeau Willimon by Joey Paur

The creator of Netflix’s House of Cards series, Beau Willimon, is set to developing a series adaptation based on the classic tragedy board game, Risk. The project is being produced by Hasbro-owned eOne. Willimon will write and oversee the development of the project.

Risk was created by Albert Lamorisse in 1957, and it’s one of the most popular board games in history. I haven’t played Risk in a long time, but I used to play it a lot when I actually had some free time on my hands. I remember some of those games lasted for days!

Risk is a game that “mixes diplomacy and conflict and conquest with up to six players competing on a board depicting a political map of the world, divided into 42 territories across six continents. They control armies, whose actions are determined by dice rolls.”

Michael Lombardo, President, Global Television, eOne, said in a statement:

“As we continue to build out eOne’s world-class content slate, we couldn’t think of more perfect partners than Beau and Jordan – whose award-winning storytelling and imagination are among the best in the business. In Beau, we’ve found an amazing combination of brilliant producer, singular creator, and avid fan of Risk. We can’t wait to work with him and the rest of the Westward team to reimagine that brand and so much more.”

Willimon and producer Jordan Tappis released the joint statement:

“All of us at Westward are thrilled to join forces with eOne to bring to life some of the most successful IP in the marketplace as well as partner on our extensive slate of scripted television shows. We’re excited to develop Risk as our first project together.”

There’s no information given on what the series will entail, but it certainly does have the potential to be an epic war series. With Willimon developing the series, I’m confident that we’re going to get thrilling Risk series.
