The Classic MONSTER IN MY POCKET Toy Line Is Getting a Live-Action Series
The classic 1989 toy brand Monster In My Pocket is getting a live-action series thanks to producers Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith and their Westbrook Studios.
Monster in My Pocket was a popular toy brand that captivated the imaginations of kids with its unique concept. Produced by Matchbox, these small, rubbery figurines depicted a diverse array of mythical and monstrous creatures, each with its own distinct characteristics and abilities.
The toys were initially sold in blind bags, adding a fun element of surprise and excitement for the kids who collected them. The Monster in My Pocket line led to the creation of various playsets, accessories, and even a video game.
I had a few of these when I was a kid! I thought they were cool because I was a big fan of monsters. Terence Carter and David Boorstein are executive producing the project on behalf of Westbrook Studios, alongside Barbara Goldner and Josh Feldman for Altar Rock Pictures, and Joe Morrison and Maggie Morrison for Morrison Entertainment Group (MEG).
The producers are currently meeting with writers to take on the challenge of turning this brand, which includes over 200 pocket-sized collectible monsters, into a series.
David Boorstein, SVP, Head of Scripted TV at Westbrook, said in a statement: “We’ve seen a real thirst for projects rooted in nostalgia. Monster In My Pocket had such a major impact on our culture, and we’re excited to dive into the rich, captivating legends of these beloved characters, bringing new life to such an iconic brand alongside our partners at Altar Rock Pictures and MEG.”
Altar Rock Pictures Josh Feldman added, “Monster In My Pocket was my childhood obsession. It’s truly one of the last great independent toy brands. The Goldners and I are eternally grateful to Joe and the MEG team for entrusting us to shepherd one of their best brands.”
MEG’s Joe Morrison said: “Monster In My Pocket has been a part of my life for decades. I’m thrilled to now partner with Westbrook and Altar Rock as we reimagine the brand for a whole new generation.”
