The Classic Series MAGNUM P.I. is Getting a Reboot at CBS
Tom Selleck's classic 1980s series Magnum P.I. is making a comeback. CBS is rebooting the cop series and they've brought Hawaii Five-O reboot writers, Peter Lenkov and Eric Guggenheim, to develop the series. Also involved are The Blacklist producers John Davis and John Fox.
THR offers the following details on the new series:
It follows Thomas Magnum (Selleck's former role), a decorated ex-Navy SEAL (also like the original) who, upon returning home from Afghanistan, repurposes his military skills to become a private investigator. With help from fellow vets Theodore "TC" Calvin and Orville "Rick" Wright, as well as that of disavowed former MI:6 agent Juliet Higgins, Magnum takes on the cases no one else will, helping those who have no one else to turn to. Action, adventure and comedy aside, Magnum P.I. will also explore a brotherhood forged by the trauma of combat, what it means to return home an ex-soldier, and a commitment to continuing to serve while in the private sector.
I'll be honest, I never really watched Magnum P.I. when I was growing up. I saw a couple episodes here and there, but that's about it. This is just one of several series that is being rebooted. Hollywood just likes making old things new again. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Last year ABC tried to reboot the series with Eva Longoria as Magnum's daughter, but that obviously didn't work out too well.
Tom Selleck is not attached to the project, but it's not hard to think that he'd eventually pop up in a cameo role.
What do you all think about Magnum P.I. getting the reboot treatment?
