The Crawley Family Prepares for the Arrival of the King and Queen in Trailer for DOWNTON ABBEY
For those of you who are fans of the wonderful Downton Abbey TV series, I’ve got a treat for you today. The full trailer for the upcoming film has been released, and it offers us our best look yet at what we can expect from the movie.
The trailer features all the main players in the Downton Abbey story, and it focuses on them preparing for the arrival of the King and Queen, who will be paying Downton a visit. Grab yourself a cup of tea and some biscuits and enjoy the trailer:
I was surprisingly really into this series when it was airing on PBS. It told some great stories and was filled with wonderful characters. It’s good to see many of them come back for the film, and I’m looking forward to watching it.
The movie was directed by Michael Engler from a script written by the creator of the series, Julian Fellowes. Engler had this to say about the film in an interview with EW:
“Life is settling into these new realities when this event happens at Downton that brings everybody together. The story line has expanded the scale of it. It takes the things you love about Downton – the romance, the intrigue, the pageantry – and makes it bigger,”
The story for the film is said to pick up “approximately 18 months from where the 2016 series finale left off (at the stroke of midnight on Jan. 1, 1926).” Fellows added:
“When you’re doing a series, you give a proper story to four or five characters a week and the others join in those proper stories. It’s like a country dance; you’re always exchanging the emphasis. Whereas with a film, everyone has to have their own story that is then completed and that is quite a jigsaw to arrange.”
The film features the return of Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Brendan Coyle, Michelle Dockery, Kevin Doyle, Joanne Froggatt, Matthew Goode, Harry Hadden-Paton, David Haig, Geraldine James, Robert James-Collier, Simon Jones, Allen Leech, Phyllis Logan, Elizabeth McGovern, Sophie McShera, Tuppence Middleton, Stephen Campbell Moore, Lesley Nicol, Kate Phillips, Maggie Smith, Imelda Staunton, and Penelope Wilton.
Downton Abbey opens in theaters on September 20, 2019.
