The Crazy Stuff Shia LaBeouf Did to Prepare for His FURY Role

We all know that Shia LaBeouf is a little nuts, but it seems like he did some pretty intense stuff in preparing for his role in David Ayer's World War II tank film Fury. During an interview with British GQ, LaBeouf's co-star Logan Lerman shared a couple of stories. Lerman revealed that LaBeouf basically mutilated his own face in the name of making Fury a more accurate movie.

According to Lerman, LaBeouf was sitting in his make-up chair getting fake cuts applied to his face for a scene. He didn't like the work that was being done, and he didn't think that it looked real enough. So what did he do? He walked into the hallway, said to Lerman, "Hey man, wanna see something fun? Check this out…" and then proceeded to cut his face with a knife. Apparently he would keep opening the cuts all through production, making sure that they continued to keep their realistic look. That's pretty damn hardcore!

That wasn't the only time he went beyond the normal call of duty in the role, though. He also became expert tank operator and didn't shower while he was filming to keep it real. Lerman added,

"He really spent every moment on set. He's the guy operating the turret in every shot, even when you don’t need to be in there as an actor. You know, you can have somebody else inside. But he was there, for every shot."

LaBeouf plays a character named Boyd 'Bible' Swan, who is one part of a five man tank crew operating in Germany during the end of WWII. In the movie they are forced to go on a dangerous mission, led by Sergeant Wardaddy, played by Brad Pitt. The film also stars Michael Pena, Jon Bernthal, Scott Eastwood, Jason Isaacs, and Norman Ellison. It comes out on October 17th!
