The Creative Team Behind The IT Films Are Developing Another Stephen King Film Project with ROADWORK

The director of Stephen King’s IT films, Andy Muschietti and producer Barbara Muschietti, are developing another project from the master of horror. Only this story isn’t a horror story. The film will be an adaptation of the novel Roadwork, which was published in 1981 under King’s pen name Richard Bachman.

During an interview with Radio Cantilo, Barbara said "We hope to start shooting at the beginning of next year. It's a Stephen King story, but it's not horror. It's a fantastic script.” She went on to reveal that the film is being directed by Pablo Trapero.

For those of you not familiar with the story, here’s the description from the book:

Barton Dawes’ unremarkable but comfortable existence suddenly takes a turn for the worst. Highway construction puts him out of work and simultaneously forces him out of his home. Dawes isn’t the sort of man who will take an insult of this magnitude lying down. His single-minded determination to fight the inevitable course of progress drives his wife and friends away while he tries to face down the uncaring bureaucracy that has destroyed his once comfortable life."

This is actually one novel from King that I’ve never read. It definitely sounds like it has a different tone from the rest of his work but it still sounds like a solid story that will make for a good film. I’m curious to see how this turns out and how well it will do with the fact that it’s not really a horror or supernatural tale.
