The Creator of QUANTUM LEAP Has Written a Script For a Movie!

It looks like Dr. Sam Beckett might be back for another adventure! This time on the big screen! Quantum Leap creator, Donald Bellisario, announced at L.A. Comic-Con that he has completed writing a script for a Quantum Leap movie!

During a panel hosted by EW, Belisario and Scott Bakula reunited to talk about the classic show and when asked about the potential of a reboot, the creator casually said:

“I just finished writing a Quantum Leap feature. I don’t know what’s going to happen with it, but I did write it.”

When pressed for a plot tease, all Bellisario would say is:

“I write things exactly the same way. I just start writing and I let them take me wherever it’s going to take me. I’m entertained the same way the audience is. So I just put Scott and Dean [Stockwell] in my head, kind of rebooted them, and went from there.”

I loved watching this show when I was growing up. I haven't watched it since the series came to an end in 1993. It would be so cool to see a Quantum Leap movie with Bakula back in the role of Dr. Sam Beckett. Only time will tell if something with this script will ever happen.

The series ended on a controversial note because Beckett didn't end up jumping back into the present day. Why is that? Well, Bakula explains they wanted to keep it open for more stories to tell.

“It was a great episode. Last episodes are always controversial. I always say to writers, ‘If you want a challenge more than writing just an hour of television, write an hour of television that is the last hour of television that that show will ever have on; write it so that it could also come back next fall; write it so that it could possibly become a movie of the week; [and] write it so that it could still potentially be a feature film someday. And make everybody happy… If you go back and watch that episode, [Bellisario] checked off all those boxes.”

The creative team was proud of their final episode and it would be so cool to see the story continue in a feature film one day! The script is written, now all it needs is a studio to back it!

Would you like to see a Quantum Leap movie one day?
