The Creators of COBRA KAI Say They're Open to Casting Super-Fan Andrew Garfield in the Series

A few weeks ago, we reported that Oscar-nominated actor Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge, The Amazing Spider-Man, Tick, Tick…Boom!) is the self-proclaimed number-one fan of the hit series Cobra Kai. After gushing about the series to Netflix, the streamer asked Garfield back and showed him a video they put together of the cast thanking him, and he was beside himself. After geeking out and saying the video made his life, fans began to wonder if maybe we could see Garfield cast in Cobra Kai one day.

In a recent interview with Collider, the show’s creators, Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald, chatted about the possibility, and who they could cast him as if it did come to fruition. Hurwitz began:

“I don’t even know how to answer that right now. I will say that we were giddy as well when we saw his reaction and how much he loves the show. We’re all fans of his. He’s such an amazing talented actor that you’d want to find something that is surprising. I think that you’d give him a unique look and a unique feel and unique angle and make him unlike any other character in the show. I think that’s where we’d start. But as to any specifics, I probably shouldn’t say anything because, who knows? Maybe he will be on the show and I don’t want take any chances of ruining that.”

Schlossberg commented on which side of the fight he bets Garfield would want to land on:

“I know in the video Andrew Garfield had mentioned Miyagi-Do forever, so I have a feeling that he’s gonna gravitate towards Daniel LaRusso.”

Held then imagined a totally different type of character for the actor:

“I feel like he’s a tech billionaire who buys out all the auto sales places in the valley and becomes just the ultimate foil for everybody.”

No matter what role they come up with for Garfield to take on, two things are for sure- he will be ecstatic to take it on, and he will knock it out of the park. Garfield is a fantastic actor, and I do hope he gets the chance to appear in his favorite show.
