THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON Reboot Moves Forward With AQUAMAN Screenwriter
Universal Pictures is moving forward on the reboot of their classic 1954 creature feature The Creature From The Black Lagoon. We knew this movie was going to eventually get a modern day remake because Universal is in the process of developing their Monster Cinematic Universe with other films like The Mummy, The Wolfman, and The Invisible Man.
The studio has hired Aquaman screenwriter Will Beall to take on the script for Creature. Apparently, they liked his ideas on the direction that the story should go. With Aquaman under Beall's belt, it makes sense to see him take on the challenge of writing another aquatic adventure film.
I've always enjoyed the classic 1954 version of The Creature From The Black Lagoon. I'm a fan of all those classic universal monster movies and I'm not fully on board with these modern day reboot's their developing. Hopefully, Beall can at least put together a decent script with a unique concept for the Creature, but remember, this is the same guy who previously brought us the films The Legend of Conan and Gangster Squad, which were pretty weak in the script department.
The story for the original film followed a group of scientists who embark on a journey to a remote jungle to see if they can find evidence or a mysterious sea creature that is said to reside there. "To accomplish their goal, the scientists must brave the most perilous pieces of land South America has to offer. But the terrain is nothing compared to the danger posed by an otherworldly being that endangers their work and their lives."
As much as I am against the modern day direction of the reboots of these classic monster films, I still hope they actually develop decent films that fans will enjoy.
