THE BACKROOMS Creepypasta Series From 17-Year-Old Kane Parsons Is Getting a Film with James Wan and Shawn Levy
A24 is set to produce a film adaptation of the popular creepypasta YouTube horror series The Backrooms, and it will be directed by the mastermind behind the madness, 17-year-old Kane Parsons. This creepypasta series has captivated audiences, and A24 obviously saw the feature film potential of it.
The movie will be produced by none other than the king of horror himself, James Wan, alongside Shawn Levy! You know there’s a good chance the movie is going to be a wild ride when these two heavy hitter producers are involved.
According to IndieWire, the movie will be filmed during Parsons' summer break, with a script from Roberto Patino, who is also executive producing the project. This will be the perfect opportunity for the young filmmaker to bring his vision to life and give audiences a fun and haunting experience.
For those of you who haven't had the opportunity to explore The Backrooms, the original video is a 9-minute found footage style short set in 1996. It follows an unknown cameraperson as they explore eerily lit rooms and corridors, building suspense with every step. As you might imagine, there’s something sinister lurking around.
Kane Parsons has expanded the mythology of The Backrooms with multiple videos posted on his YouTube channel, Kane Pixels, each of which has collected millions of views. The story revolves around the idea of accidentally phasing out of reality into a network of empty rooms, but you're not alone, as an ominous, threat is lurking in the labyrinth with you.
There's no word yet on what the plot of the movie will be, but it's safe to say that it'll be another found-footage horror flick that'll have audiences freaking out. With A24 and Wan and Levy guiding the young filmmaker, we can expect a seriously creepy, captivating, and suspenseful experience.
