THE CROW Movie Reboot Isn't Dead; Sony Pictures Just Picked it Up

There has been talk of a Crow reboot for years! Almost a decade. It got very close to production a couple of times, but for the most part, it's been stuck in development hell. Regardless of all the setbacks that it has faced, Sony Pictures has decided to sign on to distribute the movie, which will be called The Crow Reborn.

As we've heard over and over again over the years, the plan is to still make a feature film that is a more faithful adaptation of James O'Barr's comic. I'm actually ok with that because I'm a fan of the comic. I liked the 1994 Alex Proyas film as well, but it would be cool to see a film more faithful to the comic... if it ever happens!

The project has been in limbo since Relativity Media went bankrupt. Corin Hardy (The Hallow, The Nun) was the last director attached to the project and Jason Momoa (Aquaman) was set to star. There is no information on who will direct or star in the film at this point but both those talents have moved on in their careers.

When previously talking about this latest version of the film, O'Barr, who is most likely still involved with the project, said:

"[W]e're not remaking the movie. We're readapting the book. My metaphor is that there is a Bela Lugosi Dracula and there's a Francis Ford Coppola Dracula. They use the same material, but you still got two entirely different films. This one's going to be closer to Taxi Driver or a John Woo film, and I think there's room for both of them. Part of the appeal of The Crow comics, after all, is that they can tell very different stories."

They were also looking to develop the film as an R-rated project. I know fans of the 1994 film aren't too thrilled about this whole thing, but fans of the comic might be more open to it. If the movie actually ends up getting made, I just hope that it turns out to be a film that all the fans will embrace.

Who do you think would make a good director for the project and who would you like to see play the lead role? Or you can just bash the idea of a new movie if you want!
