THE CROWN Will Wrap Up After Its Fifth and Final Season With Imelda Staunton Portraying the Queen
The incredibly popular, award-winning Netflix series The Crown will reportedly wrap up after its fifth season. The third season of the series was released this past November, and the fourth season will air before the end of this year. In the final, fifth season, Variety reports that actress Imelda Staunton, known for the Harry Potter films and the Maleficent films, as well as the Downton Abbey movie, will be the final actress to take on the role of Queen Elizabeth.
The report describes the final season of the series as follows:
Once believed to be an open-ended pursuit that could see the inclusion of Meghan Markle and her new family, will end with Staunton, who had been rumored to be helming the series for a number of months.
They also give an update to the fourth season, scheduled for late 2020:
Production has begun on season four, which will see the introduction of Princess Diana (Emma Corrin). “God’s Own Country” actor Josh O’Connor plays Prince Charles, while Colman will also return as the Queen.
This is cool news. It will be interesting to see the next two seasons unfold with such great actors on board. I still need to catch up on this great series. Seasons 1-3 are available on Netflix now.
