The Cult Classic Comic THE MAXX is Getting a Film Adaptation From Channing Tatum

The cult classic comic book The Maxx, created by Sam Kieth, is getting a feature film adaption from Channing Tatum and producer Roy Lee (IT: Chapter 2, Doctor Sleep). The two talents are coming together to produce the film from their production companies Free Association and Vertigo Entertainment. Kieth will also produce the project.

Five years ago, I wrote an article pointing out ten non-Marvel/DC comics from the 90s that needed a big-screen adaptation and, of course, The Maxx was on the list! How could it not be! This was such a great comic book series. I enjoyed reading this comic when I was growing up in the early 90s. I also liked the 1995 animated series from MTV; remember that!? It had a pretty cool style.

The series followed the adventures of the hero who was a part of both the real world and an alternate reality referred to as the Outback. In the real world the Maxx is a vagrant, a "homeless man living in a box," while in the Outback, he is the powerful protector of the Jungle Queen. The Jungle Queen exists in the real world as Julie Winters, a freelance social worker who often bails the Maxx out of jail. While the Maxx is aware of the Outback, Julie is not, though, it is integral to both of their stories.

It’s pretty cool that this comic is finally getting a film adaptation and I’m excited to see what comes of it, especially with the crazy character design and cool visuals. Hopefully, Tatum and Lee will guide the project in the right direction.
