THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA Is Getting a Sequel and It's Now in Produciton
A terrifying legend is about to rise again. The Curse of La Llorona is getting a sequel titled The Revenge of La Llorona, and production on the film has officially begun.
The follow-up to the 2019 horror hit promises a fresh creative vision, a new cast lineup, and the return of one familiar face fans will definitely remember.
This is actually pretty surprising because the first movie wasn’t really that good. I never expected to see a sequel for it, but here we are.
The new film brings together Jay Hernandez and Monica Raymund, starring alongside returning actor Raymond Cruz, who is once again stepping into the role of curandero Rafael Olvera from the original movie.
They’ll be joined by Edy Ganem, Martín Fajardo, and siblings Acston Luca Porto and Avie Porto, rounding out a strong ensemble of both new and returning talent.
Behind the camera, The Revenge of La Llorona is in the hands of Santiago Menghini, who steps in as director, while Sean Tretta has written the screenplay. Horror masters James Wan, Gary Dauberman, and Emile Gladstone are back as producers, ensuring this sequel stays rooted in the chilling supernatural tone fans expect.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel is filming in Buffalo, New York, after multiple delays and false starts. The story centers on a fractured family that must confront their haunting past and join forces with their estranged curandero grandfather to stop La Llorona before she claims their children.
While The Curse of La Llorona received mixed reviews, earning a 26% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it was a box office success, pulling in over $123 million worldwide on a $9 million budget. That kind of performance made a sequel almost inevitable, and now, after years of waiting, the wailing woman returns.
The Revenge of La Llorona does not yet have a release date.
