The CW Has Dropped That Idea to Adapt FRIDAY THE 13TH into a TV Series
Since the 2009 remake of Friday the 13th, there's been a lot of talk about the future of the franchise. Aside from the tons of movie talk we've heard, there were also plans about a year ago for The CW to develop the concept into a TV series. A lot has changed since then, and at the network's Television Critics Association panel, CW president Mark Pedowitz said that the show is no longer in the works at the company.
“We didn’t believe it was a sustainable script or a sustainable series. It was a very good pilot, but not a sustainable series.”
That's one man's opinion, but Pedowitz also said that writers Steve Mitchell and Craig Van Sickle will be able to shop their concept around to other networks as soon as The CW's option on the material expires in January. So while it sounds like we won't be seeing Jason Voorhees terrorize anyone on The CW, the show — like Jason himself — isn't completely dead yet.
Meanwhile, just a couple of days ago, word came out that The Crazies director Breck Eisner is in talks to direct a new movie, so Paramount is still gung-ho about trying to resurrect the character for the big screen once again. We'll have to wait and see if this version ends up being the right combination to make it through.
