The CW is Developing a RIVERDALE Companion Series Called THE CHILLING ADVENTURES OF SABRINA
So, I just started watching the series Riverdale because of the hype surrounding it. I'm only four episodes in and I still don't really understand the appeal. People keep telling me it gets better, but maybe this show just isn't for me.
If you are a fan of the series, you'll be happy to hear that the creators are expanding the Archie universe and developing a Sabrina The Teenage Witch companion series called The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. According to THR:
The hourlong drama reimagines the story of Sabrina the Teenage Witch as a dark coming-of-age tale that traffics in horror, the occult and witchcraft, naturally. The new iteration is described as in the vein of Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist and finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while fighting the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.
This spinoff actually sounds more appealing to me than Riverdale because I'm into the fun supernatural fantasy stuff. I imagine this means that we'll see the series crossover with each other like all the DC superhero series do.
Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is writing the new series which will potentially debut during the 2018-19 TV season. It's being executive produced by Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Jon Goldwater and Lee Toland Krieger, who will also direct the pilot.
It's not surprising to learn that The CW is developing a Sabrina series as Aguirre-Sacasa previously said that he was looking at doing it. He said:
"One of the nice things about me being a part of Archie Comics is having access to a library of 4,000-5,000 characters. Sabrina the Teenage Witch, Josie and the Pussycats … those are characters who can very easily support their own show. But we [also] have superheroes. So in success, yes, the goal is to expand that way."
Well, they've started to expand and I imagine this won't be the only new Archie show we'll see. What do you think about this new Sabrina show that they are developing?
