The CW Looks to Add Another Comic Book Show to Their Line-Up with SUPER CLEAN
The CW is developing a series called Super Clean, based on the upcoming graphic novel SuperCLEAN. It's being written by Sascha Rothchild, who is currently a co-executive producer on GLOW. The graphic novel is written by Heath Amodio and Cullen Bunn. It has become more and more common for film/TV rights to books to be snapped up before publishing, but it always seems so odd to me. What if people hate the book? Obviously, the CW and Rothchild have a lot of faith in Amodio and Bunn.
The graphic novel and show will follow as "Becky Masters, an uber-organized and brilliant human, and her ragtag team of non-powered cohorts navigate the danger and drama of 'cleaning up' after superheroes and villains, all while Becky works to prove her superhero boyfriend is innocent of a dastardly crime."
The CW is calling this a drama, but all I thought of when I read the concept was the short-lived sitcom Powerless with Vanessa Hudgens and Alan Tudyk. It might have shades of season one Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as well. And also the origin of The Vulture in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Marvel and ABC tried to develop, but ultimately scrapped, a similar concept a few years ago. So, I guess it's an aspect of super heroism people are interested in exploring, but have had a harder time executing. I hope this series is great.
The CW is transitioning to an all comics, all the time network, given that their current slate includes the Arrowverse, Black Lightning, Riverdale, and iZombie. Since I watch all those shows, there is high probability that I will also check this one out if it makes it to air. Will you tune in?
I’ve included a tweet featuring some of the art (by Jason “J” Wright) from the graphic novel to give us an idea of what a series might look like. Only it’s The CW, so everyone will be impossibly beautiful.
