THE DARK CRYSTAL: AGE OF RESISTANCE Prequel Series is Getting a Comic That's a Prequel To The Show

Fans of Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal are incredibly excited for the upcoming prequel series coming to Netflix called The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance. The first trailer that was released for show was absolutely stunning!

Well, we’ve now learned that Boom! Studios is creating a 12-issue comic book series called Jim Henson’s The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and it will be a prequel that explores the world of Thra before the events of the story told in the Netflix series. So it will go back even farther!

I love that the history of the world of The Dark Crystal is being explored in-depth like this! Here’s the official synopsis, along with two covers for the first issue:

Return to another world, another time, Before the Age of Wonder. The Skeksis rein over Thra, but there are distant echoes of rebellion. Gelfling and unlikely heroes emerge to champion what is good and just, but their paths to legend started long ago. Epic tales of adventure, magic, and mystery send us back in time to the Age of Resistance to witness the untold histories that forged these protectors of Thra.

The comic is being written by Nicole Andelfinger (Adventure Time, Lumberjanes) with art by Matias Basla (Sparrowhawk), and Andelfinger had this to say in a statement:

“There’s something extraordinarily universal about the theme of good vs. evil that seems to speak to so many people from so many walks of life. It’s why I think The Dark Crystal has such a strong legacy, even to this day. When I was offered the chance to play in that sandbox, exploring the facets of that conflict through some pivotal Age of Resistance characters—well, I couldn’t say no.”

This cover for the first issue was designed by Mona Finden and a variant cover was designed by Kelly and Nichole Matthews.

I can’t wait to dive back into this world with new stories and characters! The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance series hits Netflix on August 30th, and the prequel comics will follow on September 25th.
