THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 Welcomes Back Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci With Newcomer Kenneth Branagh
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is in the works, and stars of the first film, Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci have all officially signed on to return to the sequel. Academy Award-winner Kenneth Branagh (Murder on the Orient Express, Oppenheimer) has also join the cast, and he will play the husband to Streep’s fashion magazine editor, Miranda Priestly.
The sequel is reportedly about Priestly facing the headwind decline of the print industry, which makes sense given the closing of many magazines, and the recent retirement of Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who recently stepped down after 37 years.
It’s been rumored that the original author of The New York Times bestseller The Devil Wears Prada, Lauren Weisberger, was inspired by Wintour, whom she was the personal assistant to.
Aline Brosh McKenna, the writer who adapted the first movie, is back along with the original film’s director David Frankel, in addition to Oscar-winning Forrest Gump producer Wendy Finerman.
Here’s a little teaser that recently dropped on 20th Century Studios’ Instagram:
