THE DEVIL'S MOUTH Trailer Traps Kathryn Newton and Lana Condor in a Killer Shark-Filled Cave
If you thought sharks were terrifying enough in the open ocean, The Devil’s Mouth is about to make tight, flooded cave systems your next nightmare.
Prime Video has released the first trailer for the upcoming survival thriller, and it throws a group of young adventurers into a claustrophobic underwater nightmare where escaping the cave is only part of the problem.
The movie follows five friends looking to squeeze in one last unforgettable adventure before heading into the responsibilities of adult life. What starts as an exciting excursion along Thailand's breathtaking coastline quickly spirals into a desperate fight for survival.
According to the official synopsis: “Five friends set out on one last adventure along Thailand’s stunning coast, eager for a final thrill before life in the real world begins.
“They sign up for a guided swim through a remote cave system known as The Devil’s Mouth, a natural wonder that’s as breathtaking as it is unforgiving. Deep inside the labyrinth of narrow waterways, their journey takes a terrifying turn when they discover that a freak storm the week before flooded the caves with sea life.
The creatures died in the fresh water, but something survived… and it’s hunting them now— fast, silent, and deadly. Every corridor they round is overflowing with anxiety, and every wrong turn becomes a deadly encounter.
“As panic spreads and their sense of direction slips away, the group begins to fracture. Trust erodes, fear takes over, and survival becomes a savage game. In the suffocating darkness, every choice could be their last as they learn that to make it out alive, sacrifices must be made.”
The film puts a fun twist on the familiar shark attack formula by combining it with the suffocating tension of cave exploration. Instead of having endless ocean around them, these characters are trapped inside narrow underwater passages with very few places to hide and even fewer ways out.
Jeff Wadlow, whose previous genre projects include Truth or Dare and Imaginary, directs the film from a screenplay he revised, originally written by Aja Gabel (Sunny) and Myung Joh Wesner (Star Wars: Skeleton Crew).
The cast features Newton alongside Lana Condor, with Nico Hiraga, Gavin Casalegno, Tommi Rose, and Tayme Thapthimthong joining the terrifying expedition. Newton continues building an impressive horror résumé after Abigail, Lisa Frankenstein, and Ready or Not 2: Here I Come.
The trailer does a great job of selling the tension, blending gorgeous tropical scenery with dark, flooded caverns that quickly become a deadly trap.
Sharks are scary enough on their own, but putting them in an environment where there's almost nowhere to swim, nowhere to run, and no clear path to safety makes this look like a fun addition to the survival horror genre.
The Devil’s Mouth premieres globally on Prime Video on July 29.
