The Director of Blumhouse's DRACULA Says The New Film Will Be a "Fairly Faithful Adaptation"
Blumhouse Pictures is in the process of developing a new Dracula film for Universal Pictures and that film is being directed by Karyn Kusama (Destroyer). There hasn’t been much information revealed on this project or how this classic horror story will be brought to life, but Kusama offered some insight on it saying that it will be a “fairly faithful adaptation.” During a recent interview with The Kingcast podcast, she said:
“It’s a fairly faithful adaptation of Bram Stoker’s novel. I think something that gets overlooked in the adaptations of Dracula in the past is the idea of multiple voices. In fact, the book is filled with different points of view. And the one point of view we don’t get access to, and all most adaptations give access to, is Dracula himself. So I would just say in some respect, this is going to be an adaptation called Dracula, but it’s perhaps not the same kind of romantic hero that we’ve seen in the past… in past interpretations of Dracula.”
The film, which was co-written by Matt Manfedi and Phil Hay, will reportedly have a moderate budget like The Invisible Man and Blumhouse is looking to put on a modern spin on Dracula. So, I guess that means it will be a faithful adaptation set in modern times? It’ll be interesting to see what exactly Kusama is planning for this movie, but I hope it’s good!
There have been a ridiculous amount of Dracula adaptations of the years and some of them are great! So hopefully, this new film ends up being one of the good ones.
