The Director of CREED II Would Like To Explore Ivan and Viktor Drago in a Movie
I love what has been done with the Creed franchise. I think that both films that have been made are great and I’m pretty confident that will see a third one.
Creed II brought Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) back into the franchise with his son Viktor (Florian Munteanu) getting into the ring with Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan). Those characters were also handled in a such a great and intriguing way.
It was interesting getting caught up with Drago and learning about what happened to him after he lost to Rocky in Rocky IV. He went back to Russia a disgrace and his own country disowned him.
I would actually like to see a movie that continues the story of these characters and the father and son relationship that they share. There’s a great story to tell there! Creed II director Steven Caple Jr. seems to think so as well and when talking to CinemaBlend, he says that he is open to the idea of making a movie that focuses on these characters:
“Dolph was like, 'We could have our own.' ... Their characters are really established here, and I think that'd be fun, to see where they go after this. ... I never thought about it in a serious way, because we always joked about it. But now that I have time to breathe, I probably will. I think it would be fun. I think what happens to them after this will still be interesting, and where they go, there'll still be much in the relationship that can be explored.”
Ivan and Vikor didn’t have it easy. I actually kinda felt sorry for them at the end of Creed II, especially with Ivan’s ex-wife Ludmilla (Brigitte Nielsen) walking out on him and their son. There’s a lot of pain there to work through and a healing process.
If they made a movie focused on the Drago family, I’d show up to watch it! Would you like to see a Drago spin-off film?
