The Director of DOCTOR STRANGE Seems to Tease That NAMOR Is Coming to the MCU

There’s been talk about the possibility of Namor being introduced to the MCU in the past, but Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson teased that the Sub-Mariner may actually be coming to the big screen. He definitely ignited the hope with fans!

The tweet he posted was deleted, but not before a fan managed to grab a screenshot of it. So what does this have to do with Doctor Strange? Well, in the tweet Derrickson shared an image of the cover of 2011's Fear Itself: The Deep #1. This comic featured both Doctor Strange and Namor, so could we see these two characters appear together in Doctor Strange 2!? That would certainly be super rad!

The image was accompanied with a caption that reads, "Are You Experienced?" which some fans say is in reference to the Jimi Hendrix song of the same name. That song’s opening lyrics seem to be somewhat fitting for a sea-based character. Here’s the tweet:

When previously talking about the rights to Namor, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said:

“Let’s put it this way – there are entanglements that make it less easy. There are older contracts that still involve other parties that mean we need to work things out before we move forward on it. As opposed to an Iron Man or any of the Avengers or any of the other Marvel characters where we could just put them in."

Maybe they figured out those rights issues? Feige later said that Namor appearing in the MCU was a matter deciding if and when. I don’t know, but it’s intriguing that Derrickson deleted the tweet after he posted it.

It will be interesting to see what comes of this, if anything. I would love to see a Doctor Strange and Namor team-up movie, though! Would you like to see Namor introduced to the MCU? Do you think that introduction should happen through a Doctor Strange film?
