The Director of Marvel's CLOAK AND DAGGER Series is Set to Helm SILVER SABLE AND BLACK CAT For Sony Pictures

Sony Pictures has hired a director to take on their Silver Sable and Black Cat movie that is a spin-off of sorts of the Spider-Man universe. That director is Gine Prince-Bythewood and I'm not really familiar with her work. She recently directed a romance drama called Beyond The Lights and in 2000 she directed a film called Love & Basketball, neither of which I've seen. She's also just finished shooting the pilot for the Marvel series Cloak & Dagger. I can't really judge if she's a good choice to direct the film or not, but it's cool that she landed the gig, and I hope she has what it takes to develop a great film for these characters!

Prince-Bythewood will also rewrite the script for the film, the most recent draft of which was written by Thor: Ragnarok scribe Chris Yost. The very first draft of the script came from Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy.

If you're not familiar with these female characters, Silver Sable is the leader of a band of mercenaries known as the Wild Pack. Black Cat, a.k.a. Felicia Hardy, was previously played by Felicity Jones in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. She's a former cat burglar, who became a crime fighter when she became romantically involved with Spider-Man. Felicia has the ability to instill "bad luck" around others, which comes in handy when she's fighting crime. Jones is not expected to reprise her role.

Sony Pictures is planning on developing a whole cinematic universe based on characters in the world of Spider-Man, only from what has been reported, Spider-Man won't play a role in it, which is so weird! As you know, the studio is currently developing a Venom film with Tom Hardy set to star, and Ruben Fleischer directing.

Have any of you seen any of the films that Prince-Bythewood has made? If so, do you think she's a good choice for this project?
