The Director of Marvel's NEW MUTANTS Says the Original Cut of the Film Is the One Being Released
While we wait for the new trailer for Marvel’s The New Mutants to drop on Monday, January 6th, we have some new information to share with you regarding the movie.
The development of this film has been on a long journey. While it was still at Fox, there were plans for some heavy reshoots and the release of the film kept getting delayed. As far as I know, those reshoots never happened. Once the film ended up at Disney we were waiting to see if any of the planned reshoots would happen under their watch. Well, it looks like Disney won’t be doing any reshoots.
Director Josh Boone recently confirmed in a conversation on Twitter that this movie will be the original version of the film that he always intended on making. Boone was asked if this would be the OG version of the movie that he shot. The director responded with, “I wouldn’t be promoting it here if it wasn’t.”
That’s great to hear as that’s the version of the film that was doing well with test audiences. That’s the version of the film I was hoping to see. There was a point where I wasn’t even sure if the movie would be released, and I’m sure the cast and crew were worried about that as well. Luckily, Disney and Marvel liked what they had to see and want to share it with us.
Here’s the synopsis for the film:
Held in a secret facility against their will, five new mutants have to battle the dangers of their powers, as well as the sins of their past. They aren’t out to save the world — they’re just trying to save themselves.
New Mutants is still scheduled to be released by Disney on April 3rd, 2020, and the cast includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Magik, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, Maisie Williams as Wolfsbane, Henry Zaga as Sunspot, and Blu Hunt as fallen Mirage.
