The Director of OVERLORD Is Helming a Film Adaptation of Manga Series GANTZ

Julius Avery, the director of Overlord and the upcoming action thriller Bullet Train, has signed up for a new film project. That project is an adaptation of of the wild manga series Gantz, which was written and illustrated by Hiroya Oku.

The script for the film will be written by Marc Guggenheim, and the story centers on Kei Kurono and Masaru Kato, “both of whom died in a train accident and become part of a semi-posthumous ‘game’ in which they and several other recently deceased people are forced to hunt down and kill aliens armed to the teeth with all sorts of futuristic weapons and gadgets.”

Gantz tells a pretty awesome and fun story, and there have been a handful of anime series and Japanese feature adaptations over the years. But, if you put a talented creative team behind this and a decent budget, this could end up being a pretty awesome movie.

I enjoyed Avery’s crazy WWII action horror film Overlord, and Bullet Train sounds like it’ll be a blast. Gantz seems like his kind of film project, where he can let his crazy imagination run wild.
