The Director of PUNISHER: WAR ZONE Just Pitched a New MUMMY Movie to Universal and Shares a Little Info
It looks like Universal Pictures is looking to reboot The Mummy again as they move forward with their plans to launch a “fresh strategy for Universal’s monsters properties.” They recently hired Leigh Whannell (Insidious: Chapter 3, Upgrade) to direct The Invisible Man, and they are taking meetings with other filmmakers for other projects.
Punisher: War Zone director Lexi Alexander recently revealed on Twitter that she pitched a new Mummy film to the studio saying:
No. What you would all love to see from me is The Mummy remake I just pitched to Dark Universe a few weeks ago. Reverse-orientalism 👏🏼 https://t.co/fxmyT2Gr6M

She went on to offer a little tease of the pitch, and it certainly sounds like an interesting take that I’d be interested in seeing brought to life.
Here is a little peek into my pitch...as you can tell, this will obviously never get made...LOL pic.twitter.com/GVPSYpSoPQ

With a comment like, “this will obviously never get made,” it shows a lack of confidence in the project ever happening. Regardless, the fact that Universal is actually taking pitches for another Mummy reboot is good to hear.
I did not care for that Tom Cruise version of the film and would be much more interested in seeing a new take on the iconic monster. It’ll be interesting to see how this new Universal Monster movie strategy works out. as they bring in creative directors with distinctive visions for these classic characters.
What do you think of Lexi Alexander’s pitch?
