The Directors of AVENGERS: ENDGAME Talk About What Happened to Loki
There was an interesting and cool scene in Avengers: Endgame in which Captain America, Iron Man, and Ant-Man traveled to 2012 during the battle of New York to get the Tesseract. During this mission, things take a wrong turn and Loki ends up getting his hands on the Tesseract and uses it to escape!
This was a big “wow” moment for a lot of fans! What did it mean!? How will it affect the MCU? Did Captain America’s attempt to fix the timeline by returning the stones, fix all that? The answer is no.
During an interview with Business Insider, director Joe Russo explains what happened to Loki and how he created a branched reality:
"Loki, when he teleports away with the Time Stone, would create his own timeline. It gets very complicated, but it would be impossible for [Cap] to rectify the timeline unless he found Loki. The minute that Loki does something as dramatic as take the Space Stone, he creates a branched reality."
Anthony Russo added:
"We're dealing with this idea of multiverses and branched realities, so there are many realities.”
I imagine that Loki’s Disney+ series will focus on this branched reality that Loki has found himself in. One thing is for sure, it’s clear that the events of Endgame have changed the Marvel Cinematic Universe in ways that will affect everything that is to come.
I’m very excited about the future of Marvel. I hope they can handle the madness of the Multiverse that they have opened up! Things are going to get really interesting, and it could be very confusing as well if they don’t handle it right.
