The Directors of The New SCREAM Film Discuss How They Are Handling This Next Film in The Franchise
As you know, the next film in the Scream franchise is the first one that isn’t being creatively driven by the late Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson. This next movie is coming from a creative ground known as Radio Silence, which is made up of directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillet along with producer Chad Villela.
They managed to come up with a way to continue the franchise that was good enough to entice the original cast members to return for at least one more film. Neve Campbell will once again reprise her role as Sidney Prescot, David Arquette will be back as Dewy Riley and Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers. They are also joined by new cast members Melissa Barrera (In the Heights), Jenna Ortega (The Fallout), Mason Gooding (Tragedy Girls), and Dylan Minnette (13 Reasons Why).
As far as story details go, all we know so far is that “it will follow a woman returning to her hometown to try to find out who has been committing a series of vicious crimes.”
We’ve learned a few new details from the filmmakers in an interview with HelloSidney.com. One of the things that they really wanted to accomplish was to make a film that respects the previous movies that Craven made but also wanted to welcome a whole new audience.
So, while there are going to be a ton of Easter Eggs in the film that fans will be able to pick out and enjoy they are also incorporated in a way that won’t alienate anyone that isn’t familiar with the franchise. They also confirm that the movie will be rated R as expected and that the film will continue the tradition of being a commentary on the horror genre and the current state that it’s in.
I really hope that this film manages to capture the spirit and tone of the original films. Those movies that Craven made are just so damn good! Maybe they’ll actually be able to pull off something special with the franchise.

I’m thrilled to be reunited with Neve, Courteney, David and Marley, and to be working alongside a new filmmaking team and incredible cast of newcomers that have come together to continue Wes’s legacy with the upcoming relaunch of the franchise that I hold so dear to my heart.”
