The DISNEY LORCANA TCG is Set to Release This August

In case you forgot or missed it, Ravensburger has been working to bring about a Disney trading card game (TCG) called Disney Lorcana. Recently, it was announced that the first set of cards will release in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, The Netherlands, and Luxembourg starting this August as Disney Lorcana: The First Chapter.

This first set will include over 200 cards spread out across starter decks, a gift set, booster packs, and something called the Illumineer’s Trove. There will even be themed playmats, card sleeves, deck boxes, and card portfolios at launch. The game will also feature all-new original illustrations of beloved characters from Disney properties.

At launch, there will be three starter decks available with each one including 60 cards across two of the six “inks” (for Magic: The Gathering players this sounds like the five colors), a 12-card booster pack, and game tokens. The color combinations for the decks are Amber and Amethyst, Emerald and Ruby, and Steel and Sapphire. Booster packs will be randomized with one foil and two guaranteed rare, super rare, or legendary cards.

The gift set will have two collectible oversized foils and two foil game cards for Mulan - Imperial Soldier and Hades - King of Olympus plus four booster packs and game tokens. Finally, the Illumineer’s Trove will include a themed storage box, a player’s guide, two deck boxes, and eight booster packs.

If you live in the United States, you’ll be able to find The First Chapter at your local game stores starting on August 18 with the promist of “a robust organized play program. Then, the game will become available at mass retail stores on September 1. If you’re attending Gen Con 2023, you’ll be able to buy your first cards before the general public. I’m digging some of the art and I’m a huge fan of TCGs, so there’s a chance I’ll give this a go when it launches. I’m just a little surprised the Illumineer’s Trove doesn’t come with any decks and there’s nothing that has two decks for friends to just buy and immediately start playing. Are you excited to play Disney Lorcana?
