The DRACULA Series Coming From The SHERLOCK Team Lands at BBC and Netflix
About a year ago it was announced that the team behind Sherlock, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss, were going to develop a series based on Bram Stoker's horror classic Dracula. We’ve now learned that the project has been picked up be BBC and Netflix.
The series is set in 1897 and the story will revolve around the “blood-drinking count from Transylvania who sets his sights on Victorian London.” Moffat and Gatiss had this to say in a joint statement:
“There have always been stories about great evil. What’s special about Dracula is that Bram Stoker gave evil its own hero. There’s nothing like fresh blood.”
Larry Tanz, VP, content acquisition, Netflix added:
“We can’t wait to bring Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss’ brilliant storytelling to our members around the world and we are eager to collaborate on yet another series with the BBC.”
Charlotte Moore, BBC director of content had this to say:
“Genius duo Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss turn their attentions to Dracula for unmissable event television on BBC One.”
Obviously, they are very excited to work with Moffat and Gatiss. After all, these two guys are extremely talented. I can’t wait to see what they end up doing with Dracula! I’m very happy to hear that it’s going to be a period piece, though. I’m sure they deliver a unique take on the bloody-sucking vampire.
Like Sherlock, The Dracula series will consist of three 90-minute installments and it will air in the UK on BBC and the rest of the world will get to watch it on Netflix.
