The Duffer Bros. Tease a STRANGER THINGS Season 4 That Could Travel Outside of Hawkins

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer sat down and talked about the future of the series. Before we dive in, I want to make sure that everyone reading this has had a chance to finish the 8-episode third season, as well as the mid-credits scene after the last episode, because there are some major spoilers ahead. So I will go ahead and throw one of these up to be sure.

Okay, we all good? Let’s get to it. The final scenes in the last episode of Stranger Things 3 were so insane! Hopper sacrificed himself to close the portal, Eleven lost her powers (for now), she moved in with Joyce and the Byers boys, and they sold their house and were last seen packing up and moving away. The timeline is now October, and the kids are making plans to see each other again for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was a terribly sad and raw ending scene, as El read the letter from Hopper, and the kids said their goodbyes. But then the mid-credits scene blew everything wide open. Could the American be Hopper?! It seems like it would just be cruel if it wasn’t. And the Russians have a demogorgon, so that’s not good.

Stranger Things has not yet been given a Season 4 by Netflix, but with the series breaking records and pretty much being the most popular Netflix original series of all time, I’m pretty comfortable saying there will be another season. In the interview, Ross Duffer explained that they don’t have every detail written for the upcoming season yet, but they do have the broad strokes and overall story in mind. Matt Duffer added, “I think the biggest thing that’s going to happen is it’s going to open up a little bit, not necessarily in terms of scale, in terms of special effects, but open up in terms of allowing plotlines into areas outside of Hawkins.”

This could mean Russia, this could mean the new city that the Byers gang is moved to, it could very well mean both. Ross added, “Assuming there’s a Season 4, obviously the question of who that American is in that cell and then also what they’re doing with the Demogorgon, is a tease. That’s obviously going to play a huge role in a potential season four.” Executive producer Shawn Levy added, “Certainly Season 3 ends with several plot strands that are separate from each other. And should there be a Season 4, I think we’ll see them all explored.”

Bring. It. On. I love this show so freaking much. I was super sad at the end of the episode, but that teaser brought back all hope! I don’t know how the Duffers make these characters so easily emotionally connected to us, but they do, and I can’t wait for another season!

Where would you like to see the next season go?!
