The Duffer Brothers Said Netflix Executives Were in Tears When They Pitched the 5th and Final Season of STRANGER THINGS
Stranger Things Season 4 part 1 dropped on Netflix last week, and fans are eating up the action. This is the show’s scariest season by far, and it’s done so well! It has all the elements of mystery that we’ve grown to expect, but it includes new characters and new story lines that have us intrigued. While we wait for part 2, the final two episodes of the season, to drop on July 1st, we are also thinking ahead to realize that there is only one season left after this!
It’s such a bummer that it will be gone, but it’s great to hear that the show’s creators, The Duffer Brothers, are getting to tell their full story in exactly the way they planned. We aren’t the only ones totally bumming out about the show coming to a close, though. In a recent interview with The Wrap, Ross Duffer described his and Matt Duffer’s pitch to Netflix for the final season, saying:
"Listen. It's our process but it's just like, we really just try to focus on one season at a time. We do have an outline for season 5 and we pitched it to Netflix and they really responded well to it. I mean, it was hard. It's the end of the story. I saw executives crying who I've never seen cry before and it was wild. And it's not just to do with the story, just the fact that it's like, Oh my God, this thing that has defined so many of our lives, these Netflix people who has been with us from the beginning, seven years now, and it's hard to imagine the journey coming to an end.”
It is hard to imagine it all ending, but at the same time, I’m excited to see the realization of their vision. Ross Duffer went on to add:
“But we wrote it during the pandemic shutdown, the outline for 5, and then I haven't even honestly looked at it because it's just too overwhelming. We'll get into it."
Each season is definitely its own beast that you’d have to tackle individually. Now that Season 4 is in the can, they can dig in to the final chapter and execute it in the way it deserves. I love Stranger Things, and I can’t wait to see what’s in store.
