The Duffer Brothers Say There Will Be a Time Jump Between Seasons 4 & 5 in STRANGER THINGS

Fans are still processing the epic first part of Season 4 of Stranger Things. The season sprawled across several states as well as another country, and gave us the biggest and darkest story yet within the series. Now we are just a few weeks away from part 2 of Season 4, which will include the final two episodes, the last of which will be two and a half hours long!

Season 4 was supposed to be released a lot sooner than 2022, but the crew began filming in early 2020 and were quickly shut down by the pandemic. So even though the kids got a bit older than anticipated, the creators, The Duffer Brothers, worked a six month time lapse into the story, and they plan to build another one in for the 5th and final season.

In a recent interview with TVLine, Ross Duffer explained:

"I'm sure we will do a time jump. Ideally, we'd have shot [Seasons 4 and 5] back to back, but there was just no feasible way to do that. So these are all discussions we're going to have with our writers when we start the room up ... Believe it or not, we're still working on Season 4. We're trying to finish the final two episodes, they're so massive."

There was some questioning about why they broke up the season into two parts for the first time. So that clears it up. They still needed time to finish the final episodes, the last of which is as long as a feature film. Matt Duffer went on to talk about the fluidity of the story, saying:

"We learn a lot every time we make a [season]. We've learned a lot just working with all of our new actors and the ones that we've worked with for a long time over this year [making Season 4], so I'm sure it'll change a little bit from that outline. The ending is the hard thing. That's obviously the stressful thing. We really want to stick the landing."

Matt Duffer then added:

"I'm not sure we're ready to say yet a start date for shooting. But a lot of it is pretty well mapped out."

It’s nice that Netflix is giving the Duffers the space and flexibility they need to execute the end of the story in the way they want to for the fans. Stranger Things is such a great series, and it deserves to have its story completed the right way. I can’t wait to see Season 4 part 2 of Stranger Things drop on Netflix on July 1st.
