The Duffer Brothers Talk About Heartfelt Decision to Cast Their High School Drama Teacher in STRANGER THINGS Role
The Duffer Brothers have released the first half of the final season of Stranger Things, and the pair has put a lot of effort and blood, sweet, and tears into finishing the fan-favorite saga. They’ve also put a lot of heart, and maid homage to one person who they feel is partly responsible for getting them where they are today.
In a social media post, Ross Duffer talked about a special role in the final season, stating, “Miss Harris is played by Hope Hynes Love. She was our high school drama teacher. High school was rough for me and my brother.
“But Hope saw something in us we didn’t see in ourselves — and she helped give us the confidence to not only survive those four years, but to move to LA and chase our dreams. Shoutout to all the teachers out there making a difference. And please… let’s prioritize the arts in schools. ✌️”
Introduced in Season 5 as a formative teacher, Ms. Harris now leads Holly’s (Nell Fisher) class; she witnesses the youngest Wheeler speaking with Mr. Whatsit, an “imaginary friend” to Holly’s parents and siblings until Mike (Finn Wolfhard) and Nancy (Natalia Dyer) discover his true identity — Henry aka Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower). Throughout the events of Volume I, she also accompanies Holly’s classmates to the bunkers in the MAC-Z.
It’s so cool that the Duffers were able to thank their teacher in this special way. Teachers are so important, and it’s awesome that this one gets to see the impact she made on her students in such a big way.
The first four seasons of Stranger Things, plus the first four episodes of season 5 are streaming now on Netflix. Episodes 5-7 will be released on December 25th, and the finale will air on the streamer and in theatres on December 31st.
