The Duffer Brothers Tease That Fans Will Finally Find Out What the Upside Down Is in Season 5 of STRANGER THINGS

The Duffer Brothers created Stranger Things with a full, rounded out story in mind, and they say that was part of the appeal for the executives at Netflix.

The studio expected a hit, which ended up being an understatement, and they were mostly drawn in by the fact that the creators felt strongly about their story and how it was going to play out.

It has long been teased that this fifth and final season will conclude the story of Will, Eleven, and their family and friends, but The Duffer Brothers are assuring fans that all of our questions will be answered in a really fulfilling way.

Ross Duffer explained one point specifically in a recent interview with SFX Magazine (via GamesRadar):

“When we pitched to Netflix, we knew that they weren’t interested in a limited series, so when we were making season one, we knew that in success, it would continue, and so we purposely held back certain mysteries.

“The biggest one from season one was about what the Upside Down actually is, which is something we’ve known now for almost 10 years. We’ve thought about revealing it every time we write a season, and we just kept holding it back and holding it back.

“It was exciting this season to be able to finally reveal what the Upside Down is, and it plays a huge role in the narrative, that final mystery of what it is, and what it all means.”

I look forward to hearing all of the lore, and seeing it come full circle. Season 4 really dug into Eleven and Vecna’s past, and I can’t wait to see what else is in store.

Episodes 1-4 of Stranger Things season 5 will be available on Thanksgiving, with episodes 5-7 being released on Christmas Day, and the 8th and final episode premiering in New Year’s Eve, both on Netflix as well as in theatres.
