The Eisner Award-Winning Comic LUMBERJANES Is Getting an Animated Series at HBO Max
The Eisner Award-winning Boom! Studios comic book Lumberjanes is set to get an animated series adaptation at HBO Max.
Lumberjanes tells the story of five friends – April, Jo, Mal, Molly, and Ripley – “who meet one fateful summer at a camp named Miss Quinzella Thiskwin Penniquiqul Thilstle Crumpet’s Camp for Hardcore Lady Types. Their differences aren’t the only thing they have to canoe around as the girls soon discover there are mysterious and supernatural forces afoot.”
The co-creator of the comic, Noelle Stevenson, was also the showrunner of Netflix’s She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. She is set to write and executive produce and direct the Lumberjanes series.
The comic was originally being developed as a feature film back in 2015 at 20th Century Fox, but that all fell apart when Disney ended up purchasing Fox. HBO Max ended up snatching up the property after a bidding war.
Lumberjanes co-creators Shannon Watters, Grace Ellis, and Brooklyn A. Allen are also co-executive producers on the show. Should the project move forward, it would launch with an animated special that would lead to a series.
